Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Luzviminda Ilagan expressed anew today calls to demilitarize Ata Manobo and Lumad communities in Pantaron Range, Talaingod Davao del Norte amid reports of various human rights violations including the military take-over of Lumad literacy schools in the area reportedly being used as barracks by elements of the AFP.

According to Ilagan, indigenous peoples’ organization Salugpungan Ta Tanu Igkanugon has reported that Lumad schools have been used by military elements since March of this year.
