Rep. Liza Maza of Gabriela and Senatorial candidate today expressed support to Isabela Governor Grace Padaca after the Commission on Elections annulled her victory and asked her to vacate her post in favor of known administration ally former Governor Benjamin Dy.
“Gov.Padaca played a crucial role in breaking the political dynasty of the Dys in Isabela for almost three decades. COMELEC’s decision unseating her few months before the 2010 elections poses a lot of questions and the possibility that this could be Malacanang’s handiwork should be looked into,” Maza said.
In its ruling, the COMELEC Second division said that Dy won the 2007 contest with over a thousand votes more than what incumbent Gov.Padaca got.
Maza said that she supports Padaca’s move and encouraged her to continue the fight for good governance and integrity in public service. She also stressed the need for women’s participation in politics and progressive leaders like Padaca who have a track record in fighting corruption and political dynasties. ###
