Rep. Liza Maza of Gabriela Women’s Party today said that the Senate blue ribbon committee report  that recommended the filing of charges against GMA over the messed up $329-million NBN deal with China’s Zhong Xing Telecommunications (ZTE) Corp. only justifies the need to impeach the President now and make her pay for her impunity on unresolved cases under her administration.

“It’s never too late to make GMA pay for her crimes. She may have maneuvered her escape from four impeachment complaints in the administration-dominated House of Representatives and apparently had Ombudsman Merceditas Guttierez as her protector, but she will never escape her accountability to the people,” Maza said.

Maza stressed that the NBN-ZTE scandal is just one of the many charges against Arroyo. “Until now, issues of electoral fraud, bribery, the P728-million fertilizer fund scam, and strings of human rights violations cases, among others have remain unresolved,” Maza said.

“This explains why GMA appears so obsessed at seeking a seat in congress in order for her to remain untouchable,” Maza said.

However, Maza also said that whistle-blowers Rodolfo Lozada Jr. and Joey de Venecia III should not have been included in the list of those recommended for prosecution as it had all been apparently GMA's grand
scheme. ###
