Gabriela Women's Party (GWP) reiterated its full support to the confirmation of Secs. Judy Taguiwalo, Rafael "Ka Paeng" Mariano, and Gina Lopez as it joined the action outside the Senate today.
"Secs. Taguiwalo, Mariano and Lopez represent the counter-current in the bureaucracy that is characterized by pro-big business interests and traditional politics. Confirming their appointments will ensure that the politics of change will make significant headway under the Duterte administration," said GWP Rep. Arlene Brosas.
Brosas said Taguiwalo, a known staunch women's rights advocate, has worked diligently to make the DSWD more responsive to the needs of the people.
"Sec. Judy has the trust and confidence of Filipino women in ensuring that basic social services will be accessible to all, and that service delivery will be free from corruption and patronage politics," she said.
GWP added that Mariano has bravely challenged the landholding families in pushing genuine agrarian reform, while Lopez defied big mining firms in her crusade for the people and the environment.
The party-list group said the mounting pressure on the three Secretaries "indicates that they are the shakers of the old, traditional politics that dominate the bureaucracy today." #
