#SONA2017 outfits of Gabriela Reps. Emmi De Jesus and Arlene Brosas bear anti-martial law, regular jobs calls
To show her ardent support in the fight for regularization of Endo workers, Gabriela Women's Party (GWP) Rep. Emmi De Jesus wears a barong bearing a "Regular Jobs Now" beadwork in today’s State of the Nation Address (SONA).
De Jesus is the principal author of HB 1045 or the Regular Employment Bill, a measure that seeks to ban contractualization.
“Gabriela conveys its full support to mounting calls for the regularization of Endo workers, especially as thousands of workers from Mindanao and other regions are converging along Commonwealth Ave. today to prod President Duterte to end contractualization as what was promised during the election period,” she said.
De Jesus' barong was created by Ruel Rivera from Marikina while the beadwork was done by Gabriela Youth members and BS Clothing Technology students Kat Estrella and Marianne del Rosario from UP Diliman.
GWP Rep. Arlene Brosas meanwhile wears a black dress created by activist Anna Vania Fatallia and handpainted by former political prisoner Voltaire Guray with a "No To Martial Law" artwork depicting people’s resistance to creeping authoritarian rule.
Brosas, together with other Makabayan bloc lawmakers, voted NO to the resolution extending martial law in Mindanao during the joint session last July 22, asserting that full-blown militarism has resulted to forced evacuation of at least 300,000 people from Marawi that include women and children.
During the joint session, Brosas enumerated the military's human rights violations in Marawi, North Cotabato and Bukidnon under martial law.
Gabriela has vowed to block authoritarian and pro-business measures pending in Congress such as the National ID system bill, lowering of the minimum age for criminal liability, and amendments to economic provisions of the Constitution. #
