Gabriela lawmakers today warned President Duterte of another Mamasapano massacre if agreements allowing US military presence and operations would remain in force.
"Now that President Duterte has openly acknowledged that CIA operatives were behind the bloody operation in Mamasapano, the next step is to abrogate the VFA and EDCA that allow such covert US military intervention. This will prevent another bloodbath from happening again,” Gabriela Rep. Emmi De Jesus said.
For her part, Rep. Arlene Brosas said "Aquino must be held accountable for greenlighting the CIA operation which led to the death of dozens of Filipinos.”
Forty-four members of the PNP Special Action Force (PNP-SAF), 18 Moro rebels and five civilians were killed in the CIA-sponsored manhunt against Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli Abdhir.
Gabriela supports moves to reopen the Mamasapano probe “but this should be in the spirit of pinning down the accountability of Pentagon and top local officials, including former president Aquino.” #
