On Philippine-US Friendship day, Gabriela Women's Partylist urged Duterte anew to pursue his independent foreign policy and sever one-sided ties with the US.
"President Duterte started his term lambasting US's intervention in our country. A year later we march asking for its fulfillment," said Gabriela Women's Partylist (GWP) Rep. Arlene Brosas.
GWP supported Duterte’s earlier pronouncement to abrogate all policies and agreements with the US. This includes EDCA, VFA, and Bayanihan exercises.
“These one-sided agreements only benefit the US and caused nothing but harm to our people. The US-style harassment thru Oplan Kapayapaan resulted in militarization of our communities, resulting in displacement of communities,” she added.
“The US-instigated war on terror and Martial Law in Mindanao continue to harass and destroy the lives of our Moro sisters and brothers. And it has to end.”
According to GWP those who are deeply affected by US military intervention are women and children in the community.
“In the US-instigated Martial Law in Mindanao, women, children and youth face harassment and threats of rape,” Rep. Brosas said.
Gabriela Women’s Party and other progressive groups marched to the US embassy and later to the SC where an en banc session is set to announce its decision on against the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao. #
