Gabriela Women's Party (GWP) lambasts President Duterte's latest anti-women remark in a Feb. 7 Palace event wherein he ordered government troops to shoot female NPAs in the vagina.
"Duterte latest nasty remark openly encourages violence against women, contributes to the impunity on such, and further confirms himself as the most dangerous macho-fascist in the government right now. He has further presented himself as the epitome of misogyny and fascism terribly rolled in one," Gabriela Rep. Emmi de Jesus said.
“He is pushing the fascist Armed Forced of the Philippines (AFP) to commit more bloody human rights violations and grave abuses of international humanitarian law, and takes state terrorism against women and the people to a whole new level,” she added.
The lawmaker said such statement should never go uncontested at a time when the military is escalating its war offensives and red-tagging across the country on supposed enemies of the government.
De Jesus also countered presidential spokesperson Harry Roque's statement that "feminists are sometimes OA," saying that speaking up for women’s rights will never be too much under a regime that brazenly degrades and disrespects women.
"Duterte and his minions are providing various reasons for women to rise in protest on Feb. 14 for the One Billion Rising event and on the International Women's Day on March 8. They should expect more women to speak up and reject this style of macho-fascist leadership. We cannot just take these vile remarks sitting down," she said.
Thousands of women clad in pink and purple are expected to mass up in Manila to stage the #1BillionRising dance, a global movement against all forms of violence against women. This year, Philippine organizers are holding the event with the theme "Rise against fascism, Resist tyranny, Unite for justice and peace."
On March 8, women from various sectors will give Duterte a grand condemnation in a huge protest against his regime’s tyrannical and anti-poor policies in Mendiola on the commemoration of the International Women’s Day. #
