Gabriela Representatives Luz Ilagan and Emmi de Jesus joined the regional delegates of GWP’s 5th National Congress in WOMEN WALK FOR ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE, proceeding to Lung Center, National Kidney Transplant Institute, and Philippine Heart Center on May 27, 2012. The women lambasted the railroading of the passage of HB 6069 converting 26 government hospitals into government corporations. They said that through this bill, the government abandons its responsibility of providing for people’s health and allowing local and foreign businesses to profit from people’s health.  read more »

Congress is eyeing either tighter regulation or a total ban on beauty contests put up by governors, mayors and barangay (village) captains to check abuses by male politicians who use the pageants to get girls.

Gabriela party-list Representative Luzviminda Ilagan said Congress should investigate the largely unregulated beauty pageants held at the local level following a complaint filed in the Department of Justice by a beauty contest winner who accused Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija, Vice Mayor Romeo Borja Jr. of rape.  read more »

Gabriela Women’s Party Representatives Luz Ilagan and Emmi de Jesus today joined "Jasmin" as she files rape case against Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija Vice Mayor Romeo R. Borja, Jr. at the Department of Justice. Jasmin accused Vice Mayor Borja of repeatedly raping her since June 2011 amid Borja’s threat to harm and even kill her and her family if she did not agree to meet him at his will.
